Day 1: Udong

We will meet you at the port in Phnom Penh around 11am, where you will be met by our Cruise Manager and checked into your cabins onboard the Mekong Dawn. Once onboard the ship sets sail at midday for a gentle cruise down the river toward the old mountain capital of Udong. You will enjoy a delicious lunch on board as we sail down the historic Tonle Sap.. From the new, ever developing, capital of Phnom Penh with its high rise buildings, to the historic capital of old. Dock around 3pm in Koh Chen, where local craftsmen work with silver and other materials. You will be transferred to the nearby Udong mountain, where a brisk climb takes you to one of the finest views in the Kingdom. From 1618 to 1866 this served as Cambodia’s capital city and an array of interesting stupas, tombs and memorials remain. Enjoy sunset atop the mountain before climbing back down and returning to the boat for a delicious dinner onboard. We dock here in the peaceful vicinity of Koh Chen for our first night.

Day 2: Kampong Chhnang

The boat will begin its gentle ride toward Kampong Chhnang as the sun rises, but you can take your time to rise for breakfast as you feel comfortable. The ride from Koh Chen to Kampong Chhnang is one of the most scenic on the Tonle Sap, as you pass floating villagers and fishermen, children waving from the shores all the while. We arrive and dock in Kampong Chhnang at lunchtime, where you can enjoy your meal in the stunning surroundings of Kampong Chhnangs floating villages. After lunch and allowing for the hottest time of the day to pass, we transfer to the local port in smaller boats for visits to the town’s famous pottery villages. The word ‘Chhnang’ literally means pottery in Khmer and local craftsmen travel and sell their wares throughout the Kingdom. We can visit the villages either with a gentle bike ride or by local ‘tuk tuks’, either way you will be able to take in the beautiful scenery of this province, with its flat landscape dotted with palm trees, mountain views and lush rice paddies. Return to the Mekong Dawn for sundowners over the river and surroundings. We enjoy dinner here before bedding for the night.

Day 3: Siem Reap

An early start for Breakfast as we hop on along the river toward where it joins the great Tonle Sap lake. Perhaps one of the most scenic parts of our trip, we pass and stop briefly at the floating village of Chnok Tru, right on the edge of the lake. Transfer across the lake may be by fast boat or road depending on water levels at different times of the year. A packed lunch will be provided for these journeys. Arrival in Siem Reap around 5pm.

Day 1: Kampong Chhnang

An early start as we meet at 8am for our transfer to Chong Kneas and onward travel by fast boat (or road depending on water levels) to the floating village of Chnok Tru, right on the edge of the lake where we meet the Tonle Sap river. We arrive in time for lunch as your cabins are prepared for checkin.
